A Sophisticated Fourth

I was having a hard time getting inspired with decor for the 4th of July this year so I searched hi and low until I found the BEST inspiration on Carolyne Roehm's blog.  Check out her post here which is exploding with great ideas for the 4th!

I really love the idea of a place setting on a tray.  It is a great way to add a touch of formality to a buffet and it makes it a lot easier for guests to move through a buffet line with a tray instead of trying to juggle holding plates, napkins and drinks!  Once guests have filled their plates it makes it easy to take a seat on a couch or chair and eat off of a tray.  For the 4th of July, I love the idea of laying blankets and pillows out on the lawn and then guests can take a seat with their tray and eat and watch the fireworks.

When I first saw Carolyne Roehm's tray I immediately knew that most of the sources are from Oscar de la Renta's home line so I wanted to show you how you can get the look!

I am obsessed with everything in Oscar de la Renta's home line and I registered for a ton of it for my wedding.  It can be a little pricey, so if you are not in the mood to splurge on the tile tray above then you can get an affordable tray from World Market here and then use this tile napkin with the same exact pattern as a place mat.

Here are a couple more ideas I am loving for the 4th. The above place setting is from Joe Nye's book Flair . I love the idea of a red toile tablecloth.

I also love the idea of tons of blue and white with just a few touches of these adorable "Jack and Coke" bottles.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th!!

Funk Zone Santa Barbara

Won't you take me down to funky town!  I sing that song every time I think about the Funk Zone in Santa Barbara.  The Funk Zone is an artsy, industrial area of downtown Santa Barbara that has numerous wine tasting rooms and breweries.  It is a cool area to check out and the Lark is a great place for dinner!   I just wanted to do a quick post featuring two of my favorite places in The Funk Zone, Les Merchands and The Lark.  They were both designed by the AB Design Studio and as you will see in the images below, they did am amazing job!

First some pictures of The Lark!

And now onto the wine tasting room and shop, Les Marchands Wine Bar and Merchant.

I just LOVE how the entrance looks!

Such a great space.  Love the mirrors and light fixtures.

And that wall of wine!   I have termed the design of Les Marchands as Industrial Chic!

Whitney Weds Wednesday!

Like my cute name for this post?  LOL!
Picking china for the registry has been super hard for me!  I love so many different things...I always go back to blue and white though!  I am currently registered for very granny Mottahedeh blue and white china, I'll do a post on that soon!

But now I just came across the Hermes Chaine Dancre Blue pattern and my heart skipped a beat.  Is it cheese to register for Hermes China?

Try and tell me you at least don't want this fab tray!

Travel Tuesday - Our Hamptons Home

OK, this is not really our Hamptons home but it is where we stayed this summer with a few friends.  It was absolutely perfect and I wanted to show you a few pictures.  By the way, I have been MIA for a long time while I have been wedding planning.  I am finally feeling like I can breath so hopefully I will be able to start blogging more...maybe even with some wedding details here and there!

Love the tall entrance with a big round table!

Lots of blue and white in the living room, my favorite color combo.

Perfect little brass crab accessories.

The media room in the basement had the deepest couch I have ever seen, perfect for watching a movie.

And the best part was the outdoor pool and living area.

By the way, I have been MIA for a long time while I have been wedding planning.  I am finally feeling like I can hopefully I will be able to start blogging more...maybe even with some wedding details here and there!

Luxemburgeli Macaroons

My Fiance came back from Switzerland with the most delicious delicacy, Sprungli Luxemburgeli macaroons!  Just what I needed on the first day of our no sugar challenge at work!  I became obsessed with Macaroons after visiting Laduree in London a few years ago (see my post here).  I must admit that these little Swiss gems give Laduree a run for their money!

They are actually mini-macaroons which makes them dangerously pop-able!  The consistency is lighter than a Parisian macaroon and the center is creamier.  The outer shells are a perfect little dome and the are very delicate.

The packaging is pretty with a little note on top that says enjoy immediately...which I did!  I tasted every flavor and then had to go back and taste a few more so that I could be sure to tell you which one was my favorite.  20 MINI macaroons later (they are mini, OK, no judging) and my favorite one is their flavor of the month, Coffee/Coconut Deluxe.

Visit the Sprungli website here for the history of these delicious Swiss macaroons.  You can pick up a box of your own the next time you are in Zurich.

Things that make me happy....

Pears that are in season.

I can't stop eating pears lately.  I love waiting for them to ripen on my window sill.

Our custom De Angelis X benches that Kenny and I designed and his father executed perfectly!

$1.99 gladiolus.  I love waiting for them to fully blossom.

Hope you had a great weekend and took time to enjoy the "little things"!

Travel Tuesday - The Topping Rose in Bridgehampton

We are going to be in the Hamptons for Labor Day and I hope to be able to stop into The Topping Rose!  The Topping Rose is a pretty pricey B&B in Bridgehampton.  They recently opened after a major renovation to restore the beautiful house. I think the design firm Champalimaud did a fabulous job mixing traditional and modern.

Acclaimed chef Tom Colicchio is behind the restaurant at Topping Rose and it is supposed to be one of the hot spots this summer.  Hopefully we will have time to check it out!
