Travel Tuesday - Montage Laguna Beach

Montage Laguna Beach

The Montage in Laguna Beach is one of the most gorgeous hotels that I have ever stayed in.  They just get everything right!  It doesn't hurt that they are perched on prime property with breathtaking views!

When you walk into the front entrance, you know that you are in a hotel that is unlike any other that you have been to before.  I love that you can see the ocean as soon as you step foot in the Montage.

The architecture and landscaping are to die for.  This hotel is completely my taste!

The rooms are perfection.  Not too much and not too little, just right, with the main focus being the view outside.

Mosaic Bar and Grill is a great place to have lunch or dinner...an even better place to grab a cocktail!

We did not have the pleasure of dining at the Studio restaurant but we did make it there for a drink before we had dinner off property.  I really recommend stopping by here for a drink.  The bar was gorgeous and the architecture and details are amazing...and again, the view!

The pool is just screaming for you to take a dip!  My favorite part of our stay was just walking around the pool and up and down the coast.  They have paths with benches all around the property, we would take a walk and then sit down for a bit.  We were only an hour outside of Los Angeles but we felt like we were in a far off secluded piece of heaven!

Fig Leaf Fabric Obsession

I am obsessed with Peter Dunham's Fig Leaf fabric.  It has been around forever but I have never been able to fit it into my decor...until now!

My courtyard needs a major revamp and I think that this fabric would be perfect..."Fig Leaf" comes in an outdoor friendly version.

The Santa Anna winds are in full force and tomorrow it is supposed to be in the high 70's in LA...just so you don't think I am crazy for thinking about outdoor spaces in the middle of winter.

This is what I came up with.  I have been eyeing these teak chairs and table from Kristen Buckingham.  And of course some boxwood plants need to be involved.  Go here for all the sources.

Here are some of my favorite rooms with Peter Dunham's Fig Leaf fabric...

A tablecloth would be so pretty too!

Travel Tuesday is Back!

Calistoga Ranch

Travel Tuesday is back!  It has been a long time since I have featured a hotel.  Napa has been on my mind and Calistoga Ranch is on my list of hotels I want to stay at.  Calistoga Ranch is under the same ownership as Auberge du Soleil (one of my favorite hotels) which you can read about here.

This picture is what sold me!  Can you imagine getting in that hot tub, then sitting by the fire and then jumping in that bed!?!

Sweet Revenge!

In anticipation of tonight's episode of  Revenge, I have created an Olioboard of Victoria Grayson's living room.  Victoria Grayson is a fictional character on Revenge, portrayed by Madeleine Stowe.  Victoria lives in a ginormous mansion in The Hamptons...here is her living room...

You can go to my Olioboard here for links to all products.

I have been a fan of Revenge from the start.  Mainly because I feel like I have a connection to Madeleine Stowe since we both used to drink coffee every Saturday at Cafe Luxxe...best coffee ever!

Not sure if I would ever really use the chair in my home but I am really thinking about this rug!

Color on the Ceiling?

Ceilings were traditionally painted white because light reflects off of them making everything in the room, including you, look fabulous (have you seen the TLC show "Brides of Beverly Hills" or RHWBH on Bravo?  You know the party planner Kevin Lee?  Every time I write fabulous I say it in his voice and picture his arms flailing in the air).

Anyway, white ceilings can also give the illusion of space, height and light.

We opted to paint our ceilings the same color as our walls and I love how it turned out!  I will have to say that I had some paint panic, which is a nice way of saying that I had a complete breakdown, while we were having our walls and ceilings painted.  It was hard to see the process of the walls and ceilings going from bright white to blue in one room and gray in another, but in the end I am really happy with the outcome.

Painting your ceiling can really bring out the architectural details, which is one of the main reasons why we chose to paint ours.  I have added pictures of our hallway and dining room above.  Notice how the painted ceiling really makes the molding in our hallway pop...same with the wood detailing on our dining room ceiling.

Painting ceilings the same color as your walls actually makes a room look larger.  Your eyes are not drawn to the white ceiling which emphasizes where the wall ends and instead your eye just roams the entire space.

See the photo above for an example.  I think that if the ceiling was white it would show how low the ceilings are and actually make the room look smaller. If you currently have dark colored walls and are concerned that sharing the same paint color for your walls and ceilings will darken your room, you can also add white to the color and this will help lighten up the room!
Painting the ceiling in a large room with high ceilings actually does the opposite and makes the ceiling come down into the room, thus making the room cozier.  This especially works with a different color on the ceiling than on the walls...see the picture below.  LOVE this room!!!

Here are different examples of rooms with the ceilings painted a color...

What do you think?  Painting ceilings a color is "fabulous" or not your thing?
